Opportunity Name:
Register: Volunteer Home Delivered Meals

Description:

Ways Volunteers Make a Difference through the Home-Delivered Meal Program during the Weekdays:

1. Deliver noontime meals to homebound seniors over 65 and adults who live with a disability within a specific geographic area Mondays-Fridays, except holidays, with the weekday pick-up times ranging from 10:30-11:45am.

2. Provide a friendly “check in” on the general condition of the participant during the delivery & try to offer a smile or kind word to help brighten their day.

3. Serve in one of two roles as drivers, either a regular route volunteer who drives a consistent day or route every week or twice a month. Or a substitute driver who serves on an on-call basis, filling in the gaps to help keep the program running.

4. Spend anywhere from 30-90 minutes a route, which contributes to the 500+ hours a month that our volunteers spend serving the community through the HDM Program.

5. Give the participants who are unable to prepare their own meals or attend their local meal program a chance to enjoy a healthy meal that contains one-third of the recommended daily allowance.

6. Help the Senior Centers of Loudoun reach patrons outside the Centers, with over 24 routes in the county, this program would not run without the Volunteers.

7. Assist the Area Agency on Aging in reaching all of Loudoun through the HDM, which is funded under Title IIIC of the Older Americans act, by the Loudoun County Government and through generous donations from community organizations and from participants or families of those impacted who desire to give back to the free program.

8. Serve the participants of the Home Delivered Meal (HDM) program that are typically older adults who are homebound, unable to prepare their own meals, unable to attend their local Senior Center meal program, and have no other appropriate assistance. There is no fee for the daily meal; however, participants or their family members may contribute a voluntary donation. Volunteers deliver noontime meals within a specific geographic area, and provide a “check” on the general condition of the participant on the day of delivery.
